How to read a quote, what its numbers mean, and what happens when you accept.

A quote is the firm's commercial proposal for your request. You review it and accept it before work begins.

  2. 2

    Read the breakdown

A quote lists the professional fee, applicable GST, and any pass-through costs. See GST vs non-GST for how tax is applied.

Next →If it looks right, accept it.

  3. 3

    Accept

Accepting the quote confirms the engagement. Your request moves to CONFIRMED and the quote becomes ACCEPTED.

Next →You proceed to payment, or the firm begins work depending on the service.

A quote can also be REJECTED (you declined) or EXPIRED (it lapsed before you acted).

Quote is not the final bill

The quote is your estimate. The document you settle at the end is the final invoice, which reconciles anything paid along the way. See Quote vs Invoice.
